Khalik Allah is a New York-based photographer and filmmaker whose work has been described as "street opera" simultaneously visceral, hauntingly beautiful and penetrative. Khalik's passion for photography was sparked when he began photographing members of the Wu-Tang Clan with a camera he borrowed from his dad. Real and raw, his profoundly personal work goes beyond street photography. His eye for daring portraiture and bold aesthetics takes us into an entire world. His photographs on the corner of 125th and Lexington Avenue in Harlem have been his central inspiration. Khalik shoots with a manual, analogue film camera, as photography and film-making form a venn diagram in his work. Khalik became a Magnum Photos Nominee member in 2020.

Sade Boyewa El is a social documentary, street, and portrait photographer who lives and works in Harlem, NY. A native of Sweden and Nigeria, her colorful and vibrant photographs pay homage to her transnational upbringing from around the world. Her distinctive personal style and vibrant spirit encapsulate her rich cultural background and experiences. With her images, Sade hopes to inspire people to look carefully at the world around them, to uncover all the beauty that exists in the most unusual and unexpected places.

Jessica Dunston is an analogue photographer based in Brooklyn, NY specializing in portrait and lifestyle photography. Her style focuses on showcasing the richness and beauty of brown skin, as well as the stories of the subjects she photographs.

Cj Hart is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. His photography explores the world of imagery in a curious yet hopeful manner. Through his creative outlets, CJ hopes to encourage others – especially those in his community – to go out and explore for themselves so they can have a better chance at fully experiencing life.

Nuria Mendoza was born in Spain but has been a New Yorker for more than ten years. She is a street photographer with a passion for documenting the city and its residents, especially those in Harlem. Her interest in connecting with people made her focus on more intimate portraits, as her latest projects reflect.

Ashley Peña, a Dominican-American photographer who's been living and working in New York for the past three years, uses her lens to document and tell stories through her images. Her work also centers on exhibiting relationships and love within the community while also communicating the nuances of Black culture for a sense of familiarity and comfort. To have people in the community see themselves within the images and be seen as worthy, desirable, and sacred.

Olufela “Fela” Raymond moved to Dallas, TX from Nigeria when he was just 10 years old. Initially inspired by his family’s African art collection and his exposure to the creative vendors alongside the lively street markets of Lagos, Fela’s passion for art and photography blossomed, leading him to study design throughout high school and college. Fela eventually decided to call New York City home, where he focuses on traditional photographic styles: black-and-white, double exposures, and portraits. You can find Fela in Crown Heights, exploring the streets and testing film cameras for his company, Jar of Film.

Xavier Scott Marshall is a first-generation Trinidadian-American artist born and based in New York. His images reflect upon the colonial history of image-making to question and draw parallels between history and the black condition. While taking cues from modern black life and using Pan-African religiosity as a vehicle, Xavier traces the lines of the past to create a new perspective devoid of the post-colonial reality we occupy.

Nolan Trowe is based in Long Beach, CA and interested in exploring the mystery of what it means to be a human being more than any other thing. He suffered a spinal cord injury at the L-1 level and was diagnosed with incomplete paraplegia on June 21, 2016. His work focuses on stories around disability. Nolan received an M.A. in Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement from NYU, where he focused on human rights, writing and photography, and a B.A in Creative Writing from California State University, Long Beach. He is a Magnum Foundation Fellow in the Photography and Social Justice program. Nolan has published stories with New Mobility, The New York Times Lens Blog and The New York Times Exposures, as well as other international outlets and clients.

Joshua Woods is a photographer and filmmaker born in Harlem, NY and currently based in Paris, France. An autodidact with unbridled curiosity, he kneads the intellectual nuances of photojournalism with the creative flares of fashion and art. It is through this blurring of boundaries that he resists the tropes of what constitutes blackness; identity, creativity and reality. Joshua’s portfolio is an embrace of references from high and low culture, music to food, pop to politics, history and contemporary; a constantly evolving method of documentation that seeks to provoke action and further conversations around race, identity, creativity and reality.

Natalie Cortes is 15 years old and the youngest of five siblings born and raised in East Harlem. She is an active participant in East Harlem Tutorial Program’s photography cohort and enjoys making unique pictures of the people in her life. More specifically, she enjoys documenting her teen friends at her all-girls school, especially as of late as they deal with the pandemic.

Fatou Diallo is a 18-year-old from Harlem, NY who has been pursuing photography for a year. Her passion for image-making allows her to showcase the true essence of those she encounters. For Fatou, photography has paved a way to creativity, not only allowing her to capture pure moments, but to also tell a story, wherever it may lead.

Zeinam Saha is originally from Brooklyn, NY and part of East Harlem Tutorial Program’s photography cohort. She enjoys photography, reading, and a host of other creative endeavors. Zeinab likes taking pictures of people in her community simply living and going about everyday tasks, as well as more intentional portraits of close friends and family.
